Looking Beyond the Classroom
Because taking part in campus activities is an important part of your university education, we encourage students to join one of our many student organizations at HKUST. It’s a great way to pursue your interests, make friends and further your personal development.
HKUST has more than 100 student-led clubs and societies, from sports, to arts and movies. In fact, you can be sure to find a club on campus no matter what your personal interests are. You can also organize your own club or society with funding and/or assistance under the Student Enrichment Activities Support (SEAS) Scheme.
A group for every interest
For Anson CHAN, a Global China Studies student, HKUST is a place where she can unleash her potential. A former speed skater, Anson found her passion in Dragon Boat and has been a member of the HKUST Dragon Boat Team for three consecutive years. She is also involved in other arts, cultural and innovation activities.
Another student, Rika, took the initiative of founding the BreakfUST Club, where students can network and socialize through breakfast get-togethers. She is now starting a new club, Blockchain Scholars, a research group focused on blockchain issues.
Michelle NEOH, a dedicated vegetarian and green enthusiast, became an event planner for Green Monday, a student-led project that is making vegetarian and vegan food more accessible on campus. She is currently helping HKUST caterers introduce new veggie menus and has come up with a buy-five green meals, get-one-free campaign to promote healthy plant-based eating.
There are groups in society that are under-represented, Jacky YANG was happy to be a member of the Rainbow Bird club at HKUST, which offers a wide range of opportunities beyond the formal classroom to promote mutual respect and appreciation of differences.
We are confident that students will find the right clubs and societies for themselves and create special experiences with one other.
“HKUST people are always incredibly helpful and friendly. After joining the dragon boat team (in my case), we played hard in concert together and shared common goals. The community has brought us wonderful lifelong friendships that could probably power me up when facing any difficulties.“
“HKUST inspires me as an environment that not only carries a sense of constantly striving for excellence, but friendly and accommodating surroundings as well. I think it is often times hard to balance these two qualities and knowing that you can achieve that in HKUST even outside of academics is a really reassuring quality.”
“The friendships I have made with students, professors, and staff are unparalleled. The challenges I have faced at university have also shaped me into a more open minded, empathetic and communicative person. I am now a much more holistic person because of it.”
