Where are students mostly from?

HKUST is a highly international community, while majority of our students are local Hong Kong students, we also have students from over 80 countries or regions, including Mainland China, India, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and other countries or regions in Asia, Europe and North America, etc. You may refer to here for the latest figures.

Academic

Do I need to know Cantonese or Chinese to study at HKUST?

Applicants applying to HKUST are not required to know Cantonese. The medium of instruction at HKUST is English. All the lectures, course materials and work will be conducted in English except for language courses and a small number of courses which require Chinese usage.

What's the accreditation status of HKUST degrees?

HKUST degrees are well-recognized by many respected higher education institutions. For example, HKUST Business School has a double accreditation status by EQUIS and AACSB. At the same time, all our Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degrees are recognized by the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand through the Washington Accord and Seoul Accord. Since the establishment of the university, many of our graduates have gone to prestigious overseas institutions such as Yale, Princeton, UC Berkeley, UPENN, Cornell, Columbia etc., for their further studies.
