JUPAS

Overview

HKUST participates in Hong Kong’s Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS). Through JUPAS, HKUST admits local students taking the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) examination. Eligible local HKDSE students interested in studying at HKUST should submit their applications to JUPAS in accordance with the relevant timeline.

Non-local HKDSE students should submit their applications through our Online Application System as students with International Qualifications.

2026 Entry Requirements

JUPAS applicants applying to HKUST are expected to satisfy the University’s general admissions requirements of four core subjects and two elective subjects with minimum attainment levels of “332A33”, and specific requirements set out by individual Schools or programs on subjects and subject attainment levels (if any).

332A33

Level 3 in English Language;
Level 3 in Chinese Language;
Level 2 in Mathematics (Compulsory Part);
“Attained” in Citizenship and Social Development ⁺;
Level 3 in Elective 1;
Level 3 in Elective 2 or M1/M2^#

Notes:

Non-Chinese speaking (NCS) students may use an alternative Chinese subject, an HKDSE Other Language subject, or an HKDSE Applied Learning Chinese subject to satisfy the University’s Chinese language requirement.

+ “Attained” in Citizenship and Social Development will not be included in the admissions score calculation, which will only require 5 subject scores.

# Score 3 / Grade C or above in Category C subject can count as Elective 2 (for some programs).

# In 2026, the Engineering Departments and Programs will implement updated subject weightings for admissions scoring. Simulated scores, calculated using 2025 admission data and the 2026 score formulae for each department/program are provided for reference.

Points to note:

HKUST calculates weighted scores based on program-specific formulae, of which certain subjects are given heavier weighting.
The scores presented here for 8.5-point scale are based on the following conversion scale of subject levels/grades to scores for 2026 Entry:
- Category A Core/Elective Subjects: 5** = 8.5 ; 5* = 7 ; 5 = 5.5 ; 4 = 4 ; 3 = 3 ; 2 = 2
- Category B Applied Learning Subjects: Attained with Distinction (II) = 4 ; Attained with Distinction (I) = 3 ; Attained = 0

The result(s) of Liberal Studies (Level 2 or above) achieved in previous sitting(s) will also be considered as “Attained” in Citizenship and Social Development.
For Non-Chinese Speaking students holding Alternative Qualification in Chinese Language, please refer to the score conversion table and use the converted score as the Chinese Language score for calculation.
All reference scores are applicable to local JUPAS applicants and are provided for reference only. The public examination results of students admitted to each program vary from year to year. HKUST holistically evaluates students' abilities and performances by considering their HKDSE examination results, interview performance, and other non-academic performances.

FLEXIBLE ADMISSIONS ARRANGEMENT

HKUST will continue to adopt flexible admissions arrangements for the 2026 intake, with details to be announced in due course. For your reference, in the 2025 intake, the University considered JUPAS applicants who:

Perform well overall but miss the entrance requirement of 3-3-2 by one level in one HKDSE core subject (Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics);
Possess an HKDSE program score that is higher than the 2024 admissions median score or the reference score of the selected program(s); and
Put the selected HKUST program(s) in Band A JUPAS choice.

The flexible admissions arrangement applies to ALL HKUST programs.

Individual interview notifications will be sent to selected candidates shortly before their interviews. Please check your personal e-mail, your JUPAS Message Box, and your SMS inbox regularly. Please also ensure that the personal e-mail address specified in your JUPAS application is valid.
