Program Description
The HKUST Summer Bootcamp for Polymath is an intensive program designed to cultivate exceptionally talented high school students into well-rounded polymaths, led by HKUST professors. This distinctive experience adopts an interdisciplinary approach, seamlessly integrating business and management, engineering, science, humanities and social sciences, and the academy of interdisciplinary studies.
Embark on a transformative journey at the HKUST Summer Bootcamp for Polymath, where you'll unlock your potential as a future leader and innovator. Discover how to blend diverse fields, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) in government and public sectors, to drive impactful Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) solutions.
Program Objectives:
- Cultivate Interdisciplinary Skills: Encourage students to integrate knowledge from various fields, including business, engineering, science, humanities, and social sciences, to develop a holistic understanding of complex issues.
- Enhance Leadership Abilities: Equip participants with the skills necessary to become effective leaders and innovators, fostering qualities such as critical thinking, collaboration, and ethical decision-making.
- Promote Innovation through AI: Explore the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in transforming government and public sectors, emphasizing its potential to enhance Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives.
- Develop Problem-Solving Strategies: Provide students with practical tools and methodologies to tackle real-world challenges, encouraging creative and impactful solutions.
- Encourage Social Responsibility: Instill a sense of social responsibility in students, motivating them to consider the ethical implications of their work and to contribute positively to society through their interdisciplinary projects.
Participants will be assigned specific topics for their group capstone projects. Throughout the program, students will engage in a diverse range of lectures, enriching their learning experience. The program itinerary is customized for the group to maximize their impact and creativity.
Note*:
- Students will receive a Certificate of Attendance upon completion of the program.
- English Language Proficiency – If you have been taught in English, your high school transcript/certificate must show that the language of instruction was English. In this case, you are not required to submit separate evidence of language proficiency.
- You must be available for the entire program duration. A 20% absence allowance is permitted for emergencies or sick leave, provided there is valid documentation. Students are responsible for notifying the program coordinator in advance of any expected absences; no exceptions will be made without prior approval. Punctuality is expected, and unexcused lateness may count as an absence. Students with less than 80% attendance or without valid reasons for absences will not receive the Certificate of Attendance.
- Applicants who fulfill any one of the below conditions are eligible to apply for the Bootcamp for PolyMath:
- Permanent Hong Kong residents
- Non-permanent residents studying in high school in Hong Kong with an existing student visa (the visa must be valid through the program period)
- Non-permanent residents of Hong Kong with dependent visa (the visa must be valid through the program period)
- The Exit-Entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macau (EEP) cannot be used to study in Hong Kong.

- Should any disputes arise, the decision made by HKUST will be final.
