Students who have decided to pursue a major in Energy and Environmental Engineering may apply to the Department directly. After spending one to a few semesters of study in the Department, students will declare a major in Energy and Environmental Engineering, Bioengineering, or Chemical Engineering.

Engineering with an Extended Major in Artificial Intelligence
Students who wish to spend more time exploring various engineering disciplines before embarking on a major program can apply to "Engineering with an Extended Major in Artificial Intelligence". They will be able to apply to Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering during the Major Selection Exercise no later than the end of Year 1, and then confirm their major within the Department.

Description

The Energy and Environmental Engineering program is crafted to develop leading professionals committed to creating a sustainable and environmentally friendly future. Students will learn to consider environmental impacts and energy utilization in designing and implementing products and processes, focusing on waste treatment and renewable energy generation to address global environmental challenges and sustainable energy needs.

The program offers a rich set of features, including exposure to interdisciplinary knowledge to prepare students for diverse career paths, industrial attachments through internships and plant visits to provide real-life project experience and a smooth transition from academia to industry, experiential learning in state-of-the-art labs to reinforce theoretical concepts and explore various fields, design thinking courses and capstone projects that tackle real-world problems with technical knowledge, and elective courses to broaden knowledge in materials science, data science, AI, energy, environmental engineering, ESG, and more.

The curriculum focuses on areas such as process design, energy-related issues and policy, environmental engineering, and renewable energy technologies. Upon graduation, students will be equipped with comprehensive theoretical knowledge, practical industry experience in chemical and sustainable energy sectors, skills to undertake and lead projects in diverse engineering fields, and the ability to innovate in waste treatment and renewable energy generation.
