Application Choice
Students who wish to spend more time exploring their interests may apply and be admitted to the School of Engineering without a major. They will be able to apply to Decision Analytics during the Major Selection Exercise at the end of the first two or three semesters.

Our major in Decision Analytics was introduced in 2018 to equip students to meet the current and future societal needs of the knowledge economy. Students enrolled in this program are trained to analyze real-world data, build and fit models that are consistent with these data, develop algorithms, simulate models, and design process and system innovations to find optimal solutions to important decision problems. They pursue careers in domain-specific areas such as financial engineering or consulting services, including risk management, supply and demand analytics, e-commerce, revenue optimization, health-care analytics, and even sports analytics.

We are in the process of applying for accreditation for this program from the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. This will help our graduates to become internationally recognized professional engineers.

“Of the many internships I undertook during my university life, the one at Macquarie Group was among the most interesting and rewarding. My job responsibilities included conducting research on various fintech solutions, with a particular focus on machine/deep learning, blockchain and RegTech and how they could be applied at Macquarie. The responsibilities and tasks assigned to me were consistent with my major concentration in Financial Engineering, and I gained skills and knowledge that definitely improved my career prospects.”
